Although interview questions will depend on your job title, seniority level, and other related factors, there are a few common interview questions that you must prepare before you set foot in the interview.

Interviewers are specifically asking a number of questions related to Covid-19 and how it affected the job market in recent times. In order to increase your chances of getting selected, you must try and learn about the most commonly asked interview questions and prepare well-fitting answers for them so that you’re not caught off-guard.

Research about the company and the position

Learn about the organization, its primary products and services, and what the job entails for you. If possible, connect with a few people who are in similar departments as you in the organization.

2. Being Over or Under Confident

Failing to show the right amount of confidence is another job interview mistakes that you must avoid at any cost.

Because there’s a thin line between confidence and arrogance. Being too confident may come as overconfidence which is an instant turn-off. So, it’s best to be avoided.

Clearly define what’s asked of you. If asked about past successes, be humble. Acknowledge the opportunity and give credit where it’s due. For example – If you were awarded at your previous job, take a moment to thank the management, your seniors and peers. Don’t just keep praising yourself. Communicate clearly. Don’t exaggerate your successes or don’t give too much information. Answer concisely, stating facts rather than emotions. It’s absolutely necessary to maintain composure. Don’t lose your temper or start an argument at any cost.

3. Wrong Body Language

Limp handshakes, avoiding eye contact, not smiling are few examples of negative body language. In order to avoid them, be extra careful. If you’re feeling anxious, it will reflect on your body language. Fidgeting, biting your nails, sweating excessively, swaying back and forth in your seat, all of these are signs of anxiety. Try to consciously avoid them once you enter the interview premises.

One of the biggest job interview mistakes that candidates keep committing is not turning off their phones.

By now we already know how detrimental it can be to let your phone meddle during the interview process. In fact, if possible, switch your phone to silent mode (or switch it off altogether) the minute you enter the interview premises. It is technically not wrong to attend calls while waiting outside the interview room or in the lobby. However, chances are high that interviewers might notice you even while you’re waiting outside. So, don’t let your smartphone come in the way.
